Learning & Schools

Leeds Castle welcomes schools and educational groups from the UK, Europe and all over the world, all year round.

As part of our charitable mission, we offer special subsidised rates to schools from Kent, Surrey, Sussex, Essex and London.

Leeds Castle and the National Curriculum

Leeds Castle can provide educational sessions, workshops, talks, tours or written resources to suit your pupils’ educational requirements, whether early learners, from Key Stages 1 to 5 or adult learners.

Themed workshops, self-guided visits and fun-packed itineraries ensure your school group will learn that there is so much more to Leeds Castle than history on their educational trip.

Workshops, packages and talks

Themed workshops, packages and talks are available covering a range of topics such as Drama, History, Art and much more!

Sandford Award for Heritage Education

Leeds Castle is proud to have been awarded the Sandford Award for Heritage Education.
The head judge stated the following:

“This is a service which goes from strength to strength. The programme is varied and interesting with strong links to the National Curriculum and with clear aims and objectives. It is firmly grounded in the Castle’s long and varied history and the workshops are delivered by knowledgeable and well-trained staff. There is a strong sense of cohesion in the Education Department with an atmosphere of cooperation and support.”

The great british school trip

The Great British School Trip

Leeds Castle is proud to support The Great British School Trip.

School days out build self-esteem and self-confidence, offering new experiences that help young people look beyond the classroom.

However, rising costs are making it more difficult than ever to facilitate these experiences.

This scheme offers 25,000 young people who need support the most with bursaries and free access to hundreds of incredible trip experiences across the UK.

The workshop was pitched perfectly for my year 4 children, they loved the dressing up and the actions, and the history they learned was at the right level for them to understand. The leaders were absolutely fabulous with the children and had perfect control while keeping them fully engaged. I will definitely recommend this as a fantastic trip as it had all elements, including ducks that steal sandwiches and an adventure playground. The children had a superb time.

MS Barbara Thompson
Year 4 Form Tutor, caterham school

Thank you so much for a fantastic day at Leeds Castle. The pupils learnt a huge amount and will be talking about their Victorian workshop for a long time. I would highly recommend the workshops and visits to any one who asked and I feel it was a truly valuable experience for the pupils who have very little life experience outside of their classroom and immediate area. Their faces when they saw the castle, the actors and the grounds were an amazing sight to behold- they are already asking me when we can go again.

Mrs McMaytum
Nightingale Class, Tree Tops Primary Academy

Due to Covid-19 we wanted to see how trips would now look – and we were so pleased with all of the measures in place. They didn’t take away from the children’s enjoyment at all

Kate Elliott, Frant Primary School

The children described the Castle as ‘special’ and ‘beautiful’ and they agreed that it was the best day ever. They found dressing up and acting out the ‘swan princess’ and visiting the maze especially exciting. The children enjoyed looking at the moat, the arrow slits, the battlements and the portcullis – all things they had previously learnt about. Our trip to Leeds Castle can be summarised by one child who described the day as ‘spectacular’

Uranus Class, South East London

My favourite part of the trip was exploring the castle, doing the maze, going to the park and buying stuff from the gift shop

My favourite part was everything, I loved it

Thank you for letting us visit Leeds Castle It has been the best time of my life. My favourite part was the maze.

Pupils from Mundella School

I have taken part in many trips in my teaching career and this was the best in terms of organisation and enjoyment. We were not expecting to be looked after so attentively by such lovely staff who related so well with the children.

Ms Lawrence
St Mary’s School

The children thoroughly enjoyed the workshop especially being able to dress up in costumes. The children had a fantastic day, thank you for making our day so special.

Ms Mclelland
Old Palace School

You consolidated our knowledge of the Tudors coupled with the opportunity to work with clay, a medium we don’t normally use. We had a great day.

Ms Scammell
Swingate Primary School

It really brought the children’s prior learning about castles to life. It gave expert knowledge that I couldn’t have taught at school. The workshop leaders were fantastic, informative, friendly and knowledgeable. Thank you.

Ms Holmes
Boughton & Dunkirk Primary School

It’s time to plan your trip
