FALCONRY SERVICES AT YOUR LEEDS CASTLE WEDDING
Owl Ring Delivery and Wedding Day Falconry Displays
Why not surprise your guests with ring delivery by owl for a truly unique addition to your wedding ceremony in the 16th century Maiden’s Tower. As our falconer releases the bird, your guests will watch in wonder at the rare sight of an owl flying down the aisle above their heads. To complete the sense of occasion, rings are attached to the owl’s anklet with a ribbon to match the colour scheme, while the receiver of the rings wears a white falconer’s glove. After the ceremony, capture the moment with photographs of the owl with the bridal couple against the backdrop of the 12th century Castle.
Your unique owl ring delivery package includes a meet and greet with our Falconry Team to discuss your individual requirements, an exclusive behind the scenes tour of the Bird of Prey Centre with a chance to meet ‘your’ owl and a training session a couple of weeks before your wedding day.
To create that extra special experience for your wedding day and see the art of falconry demonstrated as it might once have been here at Leeds Castle in the time of Henry VIII. Meet and greet sessions provide the chance for your guests, young or old, to stroke the soft feathers of the owls for memories to last a lifetime!

"It was at the proposal that we first met Twiglet. An idea of mine to use an owl to deliver the ring that i was going to give to my wife to be. Well that and an aeroplane trailing a banner with Kirsty I love you will you marry me. Twiglet was the icing on the cake, the falconer and his staff were also amazing, working with me to get everything just right, couldn't have asked for more. To make it all the better, she said Yes..
When planning the wedding we had already decided that we had to have Twiglet deliver the wedding rings to the amazement of our guests who knew nothing until he swooped through the centre of the Maidens Tower with our rings in a little bag hanging from his leg and then back to the falconer to an almighty cheer. What an amazing thing to happen on such a special day. And yet again the falconer and his staff working for us to give our wedding that special touch with absolutely no worries..
We would recommend this to anyone as we feel there is no better way to have the rings delivered."

"We were married in The Maidens Tower and it was the most perfect day. The Leeds Castle team were wonderful from the first time we came into the castle right through to the morning of check out. Nothing was too much trouble and they went above and beyond. I was able to phone whenever I had questions and I was always reassured that everything was in hand and I didn't have to worry. My flowers were absolutely perfect and exactly as I had imagined them. We also used Twiglet the Tawny Owl to deliver our rings and the falconry team were brilliant. We really couldn't of asked for anymore throughout the planning to the big day, we didn't have to worry about anything because The Leeds Castle team took all the worry and stress away. The only thing we would of wanted was for the day not to end so soon."

"As a surprise to our wedding guests we had a barn owl fly the wedding rings down the aisle to the best man. The owl added a unique element and something our guests still remember and talk about. Whilst we were having our wedding pictures taken we arranged for the guests to meet a few of the birds and the opportunity to have their own pictures taken. The Falconry team were very professional, friendly and knowledgeable, with nothing being too much trouble. We would thoroughly recommend owl ring delivery to anyone who wanted something different."

Meet the Falconry Team
Mark Brattle, Falconry & Wildlife Manager
Mark’s life-long fascination with birds of prey began at three years old followed by visits and experiences at falconry centres throughout the UK. The first decade of his career was spent learning the art of falconry from apprenticeship to Head Falconer positions at bird of prey centres across the country.
In February 2012 Mark joined Leeds Castle to set up and manage the Falconry Department sourcing birds, equipment and staff. Mark has established a talented and hardworking team of falconers who have great fun in looking after the birds of prey for the enjoyment of visitors to the Leeds Castle estate.
Hannah James, Head Falconer
Hannah’s passion for birds of prey started at 10 years old when a falconry centre visit triggered a fascination with the bond between the Falconer and his Bald Eagle. Hannah spent the next few years studying birds of prey before being bought her first bird Keye, a Harris Hawk who now resides at Leeds Castle, allowing her to train him, gain his trust and share new experiences.
Following work experience with Mark in Kent, Hannah ran her own bird of prey centre for five years where she helped rescue birds and taught people about Falconry. Hannah began working at Leeds Castle in March 2012.
Reece Napper, Falconer
Reece was intrigued by the contrast in the birds’ personalities when watching his first falconry demonstration at 14 years old. A year later he joined the Leeds Castle team on work experience which extended to a placement during weekends and school holidays gaining hands on experience with the birds. A further work placement led to a one year apprenticeship where Reece learnt how to run experience days and perform commentary for demonstrations.
Training one of the new birds, Austin the Harris Hawk, gave Reece vital experience in training a bird from scratch. Reece joined the team in a permanent role in July 2015.
