Private Spaces Talk: Conserving Lady Baillie’s Suite of Rooms

Leeds Castle’s very own Curator of Interiors and Collections, Catherine Pell, for an overview of the conservation project, offering an in-depth look at key objects in the suite and find out about future conservation plans.

During the talk you’ll learn of the conservation work to restore Lady Baillie’s Bedroom to its original glory, as well as the Castle’s ambitions to restore her Dressing Room and Tack Room to Rateau’s (leading interior designer of the 1930s) earlier designs. What’s more, you’ll also receive behind-the-scenes access to the Tack Room.

Between 2019 and 2021 the Heritage team completed an ambitious project to conserve the private suite of Lady Baillie in the Castle to the scheme devised by the renowned 20th-century designer Stéphane Boudin. Comprising the main bedroom and dressing room, the suite was emptied, with paintings and textiles receiving much-needed conservation treatment while the wooden floors and panelling were conserved in situ by a team of specialists.

This talk is included in the price of your admission ticket, however we do require all those interested in participating to sign up via the link provided.
