The Queen’s Joust

Join us for a bank holiday of exhilarating displays of combat and action, elegant and unusual equestrian, and medieval living and feasting.

Gasp at the first crash of lances, cheer as your favourite knight gallops past, and watch as England and France not only battle for the coveted cup, but more importantly, for the honour and attention of the queen.

As in English jousting history, no matter if you win the joust, if the queen doesn’t deem you as the worthy winner, she’ll choose someone else. A knight’s armour and demeanour may just win them her hand… it’s not all based on skill and combat.

For the first time at Leeds Castle, we are thrilled to share there will be two opportunities each day to experience the main event… The Joust! At 1pm and 3:30pm each day you can watch as the action unfolds and you cheer on your favourite Knight.

This event is included with your Leeds Castle admission ticket, if you book online ahead you’ll receive the best price!

Marshal of the Field

Kyle Van
Dolah-Evans

Kyle is the co-organiser of the Leeds Castle tournament and an expert on horsemanship, chivalry, and jousting tournaments.

As the Marshal of the Field, she will be the head judge and supreme voice of authority on the field. It will be Kyle’s job to ensure that the competition is fair and balanced.

Kyle is well qualified to fill this role, having judged tournaments in the USA and England since 2009, and currently serves as the Marshal for the tournaments at the Royal Armouries in Leeds and the Leeds Castle joust; and she was the Marshal for the Arundel International tournament in 2016. In addition to her tournament experience, she is an accomplished rider, having ridden and competed as an eventer since she was a young girl.

Kyle is a tough, but fair judge, uncompromising in the standards she holds competitors to.  She knows that each and every one of the 2023 competitors is a champion, capable of excellent horsemanship and sportsmanship.  These competitors are the best of the best, and Kyle is both excited and honoured to serve as their Marshal.
