20,000 stems from 150 different flowers were used by 21 national and international floral designers to bedeck the rooms of the Castle during the Festival of Flowers on a theme of ‘A Queen’s Castle’. The designers said they particularly liked to take part in the Leeds Castle Festival because it allowed them to let their creativity go wild in the beautiful rooms and this is so different from the plain white competition tents and strict design criteria they are usually expected to work with.
This year the official opening was hosted by English garden designer and television personality Joe Swift who gave a guest talk on ’30 Years of Garden Design’ to a packed room in the Fairfax Terrace. After a tour of the Castle he said he was totally amazed by the skill of the florists and the breadth of designs on show.
