Think your child has what it takes to be a published author?
Watch the first video in a series of clips from Clare Balding, Lead Judge of the BIG Story Writing Challenge, who will be giving exclusive tips on how to write a winning story!
The winning stories from each category (5 – 9 years & 10 – 13 years) will each win a brilliant bundle of Leeds Castle prizes, including having their story illustrated and published on Fonetti.
Children aged 5 to 13 years are invited to take part in the Leeds Castle BIG Story Writing Challenge by writing an original, fictional story of no more than 900 words. Get creative with this year’s theme of ‘One Golden Day’! Put on your royal thinking crowns and use this golden theme to inspire you to write about anything at all, with a unique title – the more imaginative the better!
This year’s theme is inspired by an event that took place 500 years ago in 1520 when Henry VIII stayed at Leeds Castle with 5,000 of his courtiers. He was on his way to meet the King of France for a massive jamboree that has since become known as ‘The Field of Cloth of Gold’.
The 20 talented finalists will be invited to the Grand Awards Ceremony on 29th May 2020, hosted by Clare Balding in the Castle.
Budding young writers have until 11.59pm on 6th March 2020 to submit their stories. Don’t forget to keep an eye out on Leeds Castle’s website and social media for videos of Clare Balding giving her expert tips!
