Leeds Castle Golf Course to Host 10th Anniversary ‘Tri-Castle Cup’

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the ‘Tri-Castle Cup’, a friendly but competitive golf match played between teams of staff members from three of the country’s most popular Castles. Leeds Castle is delighted to host this year’s competition on Thursday 19th October 2017.

Years ago when the competition first began, two individual matches were played annually between Leeds Castle’s best golfers and that of the Royal Household at Windsor Castle and Hever Castle. In 2007, Leeds Castle Golf Pro Steve Purves initiated the shift to one principal match a year and this year the trophy is highly coveted.

Leeds Castle employees have been competing in a monthly staff tournament since the start of the year and have been awarded points in order of their finish position after each match. The top eight players now make up the team to take on Windsor and Hever Castles in the Tri-Castle Cup.

Ambitions are high for the Leeds Castle team this year to win back the trophy on home turf from the Royal Household who are the current champions.

“The competition takes place once a year where all three Castles get together. Each Castle hosts the tournament by rotation. It’s a very competitive event of course with Castle bragging rights at stake!” commented Steve Purves Leeds Castle Golf Manager and PGA Professional.

The Leeds Castle golf course has recently had major investment to revitalise the nine hole golf course back to its former glory. Now completed, some 85 years after it was first opened for play; the stunning views of the Castle from the course have been restored with the addition of new vistas, in addition to new tees, redesigned bunkers and immaculate greens.

Leeds Castle Team Captain Ken Pink said:

“I am privileged to lead the Leeds Castle team this year and look forward to an exciting and challenging competition. Royal Household Golf Club Windsor and Hever Castle Golf Club have always presented a strong team but I’m hopeful that home advantage will result in a win for us and the return of the Tri-Castle Cup to Leeds Castle”.

Following the Tri-Castle match on the 19th October, there will be a presentation from Leeds Castle’s Chief Executive Sir David Steel for the winners of the best individual score, longest drive, nearest the pin and the overall team trophy.

Results will be posted on the Leeds Castle website, please visit www.leedscastlegolf.com to find out who won and for more information on golf at “the loveliest Castle in the world”.

The golf course at Leeds Castle is open daily, with season tickets available for 5-Day Midweek and 7-Day Full formats, prices start from just £320.
