Michael Portillo to Visit Leeds Castle on ‘Great British Railway Journeys’

Leeds Castle will feature on new BBC2 ‘Great British Railway Journeys’ series on Friday 21st May at 6.30pm.

Great British Railway Journeys is a documentary series in which journalist, broadcaster and former politician Michael Portillo, travels the length and breadth of the country by train referring to his 1930s Bradshaw’s Guide stopping at places of interest.

Filming took place at Leeds Castle during lockdown on 2nd October 2020 and will introduce viewers to the legacy of the last private owner Lady Olive Baillie, as Michael explores her opulent 1930s library and drawing rooms with Deputy Curator Catherine Pell.

Due to be aired on Friday 21st May, the fifth episode of series 13 of the popular television programme will see Michael travel by train from Herne Bay and finish his journey with 900 years of history and even punting on the moat at “the loveliest Castle in the world”
