We are seeking an experienced gardener to join our existing team, and working across the diverse range of gardens. Qualified to level 2, and with experience of working within professional gardens, the role will also include working alongside and supervising volunteers. With a 5/7 day per week rota to fulfil, our small team must work effectively and efficiently to deliver a first class gardens for our visitors at all times.

Our gardens are diverse, with intensive herbaceous borders, lawns, woodland gardens, potted displays and specialist collections. This role requires a strong general horticultural skills base, with perhaps a specialism within a certain relevant discipline. Working closely with colleagues to present the gardens to a high standard, there will also be a need to supervise the volunteer team in daily tasks. The role requires use of a range of machinery and manual equipment, and whilst training is provided, experience in these areas is beneficial, or an aptitude and willingness to train and develop.

An estate as varied as Leeds Castle means that there will also be times when the gardening team help out elsewhere on the estate, primarily with other grounds/estate care activities.

Qualifying Requirements:

• Level 2 qualification in horticulture (or equivalent experience/qualification)
• A minimum of 2 years working as a professional gardener
• Full driving license
• Other qualifications are desirable, such as chainsaw certificates, first aid at work, tractor/atv user, PA1/PA2 spray certificates, etc.

To lead the cleaning staff to ensure that all residential and hospitality accommodation across the estate, including Castle, and Day Visitor routes are cleaned and presented to the highest standards.

KEY TASKS

• To actively lead and participate in the cleaning and servicing of residential and hospitality accommodation.
• To check all rooms and common areas to ensure the appropriate standards are maintained reporting any problems to the Assistant Housekeeper or Soft Services Manager.
• To arrange working rotas for cleaning staff to ensure that adequate staffing coverage is maintained at all times and timely turn round of rooms is achieved.
• To be responsible for the supervision, training and development of staff to ensure they reach their full potential.
• To lead, mentor and motivate staff members to ensure quality and standards of work are met and staff working relations are harmonious.
• To arrange any specialist cleaning projects and annual spring cleaning, working closely with Soft Services Manager for specialist support where necessary.
• To liaise with Facilities Manager to inform him of any maintenance issues which may arise.
• To be responsible for monitoring cleaning stock and equipment ensuring adequate supplies are maintained and regular stock takes are carried out.

• Coach and mentor staff to achieve the required standards.
• Follow Company regulations in Health & Safety and maintain a safe working environment.
• To ensure personal standards of presentation, performance and attendance beyond reproach at all times.

Job Type: Full-time (permanent)

Salary: £21,840.00 per year

Schedule:

• Day shift
• Weekend availability

Ability to commute/relocate to Maidstone (required)

Experience: Housekeeping: 2 years (preferred)
