About THE SCULPTOR

CJ Munn and Andre Masters

André Masters and CJ Munn met through a shared love for lifecasting and sculpture on the internet in 2003 where they were drawn to photographs of each other’s work. What began as a creative passion for the arts grew into a loving partnership that would flourish both in and out of the studio. With their pooled talents, from André’s past as a model maker for the film industry and CJ’s experience as a commercial artist, they work in every conceivable material – from copper to leather, glass to gold – and have won national and international awards for their artwork including the very first International Rising Star Award at the 3D Print Show for their innovative piece, ‘Icarus had a sister’ which boldly blends traditional sculpting techniques with state of the art technological advancements. This piece was shown at The Louvre, Paris, to much critical acclaim and despite its ‘hybrid status’ was recently named favourite piece of 3d printed art of all time by technology journalist Rachel Park.

In working with them for his Silver-Gilt winning show garden for RHS Chelsea Flower Show in 2010, Thomas Hoblyn described them as ‘geniuses’ and their work as ‘Beautiful, wonderful, perfect!’ as well as a ‘joy to work with.’

Masters and Munn are fierce campaigners for the appreciation of aestheticism, fine attention to detail and true craftsmanship in the arts; rejecting the lauding of that which aims to shock or confuse with gimmickry. They believe in the need to keep learning new skills to keep their passion for the arts alive and effervescent, responding to ever-developing material technologies available to contemporary sculptors whilst continuing to pay homage to the more ancient and traditional art forms.

SCULPTURES EXHIBITING

The Prize (Genesis)

A hand-engraved, cold cast bronze, wall or hedge mounted life-size nude figurative sculpture. This is an exclusive variation of the original lifecast sculpture, ’The Prize’, which was originally displayed in Thomas Hoblyn’s Chelsea Flower Show garden which helped win him the Silver Gilt Medal in 2010. The original and subsequent editions were made in copper, however, this cold cast bronze version is unique not only in this finish but with the additional hand-engraved sensual ferns which adorn and caress the body of the subject. Suitable for indoor or outdoor display (as with most metals, the patina will subtly change over time in relation to the weather).

Whilst the original version of The Prize was inspired by the character of Cunégonde from Voltaire’s ‘Candide’, this particular version draws inspiration from the close connection of women to nature, the beauty of both the natural human form and the plant life we see around us every day, both forms of life unfurling and blossoming in the sunlight. It forms part of the ‘Fern’ collection of lifecast sculptures available from our website.

 PRICE: £6,850

Suitable for indoor or outdoor display(as with most metals, the patina will subtly change over time in relation to the weather). This was the first in the Fern collection of engraved sculptures, drawing inspiration from the close connection of women to nature, and drawing parallels between the natural curves of the human form and the sensuous curved lines in plants such as the humble fern, showing beauty is all around us every day if we stop to notice it.
