Protecting Our Castle
In recent years the Foundation has undertaken extensive restoration projects. Annual surpluses are invested back into these ongoing restoration and conservation projects that keep the Castle, its contents and its surroundings as beautiful today as they were during Lady Baillie’s 1930s house parties. Recent projects have included returning the exquisite Castle dining room to its former glory to important and sympathetic repairs to the castle turrets that will preserve the fabric of this historic building and protect it long into the future.
Protecting Our Collections
The extensive collections held at Leeds Castle provide important perspectives on British society and the tastes of our last private owner – including Grade I listed interiors dating from the 18th Century. Recent projects have included restoring Lady Baillie’s Tortoiseshell desk, damaged by Storm Clara in 2020, and the fine furnishings of the Thorpe Hall Drawing Room.
Protecting Our Nature
The Grade I listed Castle sits in a 998-acre estate with 500 acres of Grade II* listed parkland. This wonderful space has always provided a welcoming home to many species of animals and birds. Projects such as our wildflower meadow project, which launched this year as part of our 50th anniversary celebrations, are an important part of our commitment to ensuring they continue to thrive.
