From 25th November 2022 to 1st January 2023 the grounds will open early from 9am and close at 3pm (last entry 1.30pm). The Castle will open early from 9.30am and close at 2.30pm (last entry 2pm). Please see a full list of our Christmas opening times here.

The lift to the Lower Gloriette is currently out of service until further notice, we hope to have it back in operation soon.

Leeds Castle has embarked on a new adventure with displays introducing you to one of the most sophisticated and enigmatic female owners of the Castle. Glide into the 1930s castle and return to the past in one of the most glamorous historic tours in Kent.

You are cordially invited to the exotic and glamorous 1930s house party of Lady Baillie, the Anglo-American heiress who transformed Leeds Castle into one of the most desirable country houses of the 20th century.

Learn the story of her guests and of her staff preparing for the weekend ahead, where music, dancing and dangerous liaisons were the order of the day.

Glide into the 1930s

Imagine the gossip nattered between staff, the cocktails sipped by guests, the tension felt as high stakes gambling took place in the Games Room. Experience a slice of historic England and learn about the sparkling mix of Hollywood stars, society’s finest and leading politicians, all of whom partied within the Castle’s walls.

Be transported to the 1930s – discover the rescue and restoration of the Castle and its transformation with complete interiors styled by Lady Baillie and some of the most talented  French designers of the time including Armand-Albert Rateau and Stéphane Boudin.

Please note, these images are taken from our launch event and some elements including dancers, singers and models, will not be shown in the Castle during your visit.

Take a leisurely stroll through history

Your journey will start at the entrance of the Castle. Stroll through the Library and Dining Room before making your way to witness the construction of the Private Dining Room.

From here, head on through to the Games Room and into the Writing Room, where Lady Baillie’s staff have unpacked her latest purchases of fine collectables from famous Auction Houses.

You will experience all the hedonistic glamour of a 1930s Salon, where guests partied until the early hours.

Feel Lady Baillie’s presence permeate your surroundings

Venture upstairs and feel Lady Baillie’s presence. She’s just unpacked  from time spent abroad and is preparing for a weekend of partying with high-profile guests. Descending the main staircase, you will explore the completed Drawing Rooms, showcasing Lady Baillie’s interior design vision, filled with natural light and elegant décor where she gathered with close family and friends.

Uncover the secrets of the servants

Amidst this fun and frolics, you will uncover the stories of the house staff in the Servants Hall, all of whom contributed to the life and soul of the Castle.
