Winter at Leeds Castle

The Kentish countryside is a sight to behold during winter, especially here at Leeds Castle. From the blue and green hues paired with icy leaves and carpets of snow (even if it’s just half an inch) to frost-covered fields and spouts of rainfall splashing on the bare trees, Leeds Castle offers over 500 acres of picturesque parkland ready to be explored.

Whether you chase patches of blue skies, wrap up warm for a frosty walk with the family discovering the local wildlife, or hunt for an entertaining escape for your little ones, Leeds Castle offers plenty to keep you busy this winter.

Leeds Castle is home to mesmerising historical gardens and landscapes filled with dazzling beauty, which perfectly lend themselves to all the seasons.

This winter at Leeds Castle, start your escape with a stroll through the Winter Garden, found in the Princess Alexandra Gardens. At times this garden is calm and reflective, and at others, it’s babbling and vibrant. Offering a true winter’s path along the water’s edge, the Winter Garden is filled with magical sounds and sights to behold. Large shrubs and trees provide winter fragrance and colour; paired with a carpet of winter flowers, it promises to enhance and delight your senses.

As you wander through the estate, treading on the icy leaves on the ground, you will find many exquisite gardens, all with different unique themes, designs and species. Just take the Lady Baillie Mediterranean Garden Terraces – designed with exoticism in mind; you’ll step into the natural world and discover the European-inspired designs as you continue on your scenic winter walk overlooking the Great Water.

Animal lovers, prepare to be amazed (and hold onto your hats) as you sit back and watch in awe as a majestic bird of prey swoops over your head in the falconry display. Learn of their unique hunting habits, and life in the wild, and get up close and personal to meet these incredible animals as you are greeted by their cheeky personalities.

There is plenty for the little ones too! Wrap up warm and come raring to go as you conquer the thrilling adventure playground. Let off steam by navigating the climbing walls, fireman’s poles, giant cargo net, and zip wires to be named the king or queen of the castle. Parents and carers, you may want to bring your umbrella!

You can also challenge the family to win ultimate bragging rights for the day as you tee off at the Leeds Castle Adventure Golf. Or get lost around the Maze made of 2,400 yew trees before exploring the underworld grotto with all its mythical beasts.

Escape the chill with a visit to the Castle. There is plenty to discover from striking interiors, furnishings and unique artworks. You will learn of the Castle’s rich heritage of playing hostess to six of England’s medieval queens; and its transformation into an elegant 20th-century retreat for the influential and famous Lady Baillie herself.

After a day full of exploring, how does an overnight winter getaway in the country sound?
Cuddle up in front of a roaring fire with a blanket and warm brew, all before tucking into crisp cotton bedding with your favourite book for a bit of light reading before bed.

Wake up the next day feeling refreshed and ready to go as you savour a hearty breakfast.
